Same-Day and Urgent Chiropractic Appointments in St. Thomas

Tradewinds Chiropractic & Wellness in Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas fields a steady stream of calls from people who do not want to wait weeks for an appointment: a back that locked up overnight, a neck that will not turn after a bad night's sleep, a flare that has not settled in a couple of days. This page covers what "urgent" means at a chiropractic clinic, what we can do quickly, and when you need somewhere else instead.

What we mean by urgent here, and what we do not

We are a chiropractic clinic, not an urgent care center or an emergency room. "Urgent" on this page means an acute musculoskeletal flare, a back or neck that has suddenly gotten much worse, not a medical emergency. If you are describing chest pain, a stroke, a serious injury or anything on the red-flag list below, that is emergency room territory, not a same-day chiropractic visit.

Within that boundary, a same-day visit is a normal, common request. Acute low back pain, a sciatica flare, a stiff neck that will not turn, and the aftermath of a minor fall or a hard day of physical work are the most common reasons people call asking to be seen soon rather than waiting.

What this can help with

How scheduling works at Tradewinds

If it is an emergency, go to the nearest hospital. For anything else, call or walk in: we take walk-ins and same-day appointments. A first visit takes about an hour. Most patients are adjusted on the first visit, unless something in the exam rules it out or you need to be referred elsewhere first. Fill in your forms as soon as you can once you book, even for a same-day visit. Dr. Keys is the Chair of the Virgin Islands Board of Chiropractic Examiners, a member of the Virgin Islands Chiropractic Society, and the International Chiropractors Association representative for the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Same-day appointments are usually available, and the clearest way to find out what is open today is to call. If it is your first time here, your first visit covers what to expect once you are in the door.

When it is not the right step

Some symptoms need the emergency room or a physician, not a same-day chiropractic visit, no matter how soon we could see you:

  • Loss of bowel or bladder control, or numbness in the saddle area
  • Weakness that is spreading or getting worse
  • Fever along with back or neck pain
  • The worst headache of your life, or one with vision changes, slurred speech or weakness on one side
  • Chest pain, or pain spreading to the jaw or arm
  • Pain after a serious fall, crash or blow where a fracture has not been ruled out

If any of these describe you, call 911 or go to the emergency room now. Call us after you have been seen, and we can help with the recovery once the urgent part is handled.

Visitors, crew and cruise passengers

Most of the people asking about a same-day or urgent visit are not calling weeks ahead. Charter crew on a short turnaround, cruise passengers with one day in port, and visitors whose vacation just got interrupted by a bad back all need an honest answer about what is possible in the time they have. Walk-ins and same-day appointments work the same for visitors as for residents. Say how long you are on island when you call, and we will tell you plainly what is realistic.

Questions patients ask

Can I get a same-day chiropractic appointment in St. Thomas?

We take walk-ins and same-day appointments. Call (340) 690-4994; that is the fastest way to find out what is open today. If it is an emergency, go to the nearest hospital.

Are you a walk-in chiropractor?

Yes. We take walk-ins and same-day appointments. Calling ahead lets you find out what is open before you come in.

My back went out and I am only on island for a few days. Can you fit me in?

Walk-ins and same-day appointments work the same for visitors as for residents. Call (340) 690-4994, say how long you are here, and we will tell you what is realistic. See hurt your back on vacation.

Should I go to the ER or see a chiropractor for sudden back pain?

If you have any red-flag symptoms (loss of bowel or bladder control, spreading weakness, fever with back pain, or pain after a serious fall or crash), go to the emergency room. Without those, an acute back or neck flare is a common reason people call us for a same-day visit.

Do you see patients quickly after a car accident?

Once anything urgent has been ruled out at the scene or by a physician, yes, whiplash and soft-tissue injury after a crash is a common reason for a prompt visit. See whiplash and car accidents.
